'E' is for 'Enhancement' in new Frankfurt eBook Award submission criteria

The International eBook Award (IeBA) Foundation has announced the coming of the second Frankfurt eBook Awards and a new criteria for entrants. The main changes being the splitting of the main award into two (a grand prize for best fiction and non-fiction piece, the winner of each being awarded $50,000) and the refocusing of entries to make use of 'e' functionality. The nominations are due by June 30, 2001 and will be announced October 10 at this year's Frankfurt Book Fair.

According to IeBAF Foundation Judging Director, Peter Mollman, "In addition to the continuing focus on the quality and integrity of the writing, the Judges will be looking for enhanced eBooks, ones that take full advantage of the technical possibilities this new medium provides. Such enhancements not only increase the value of the content, they also add new dimensions to the reading experience."

The six prizes are as follows:

  1. Grand Prize for Fiction eBook: $ 50,000 USD
  2. Grand Prize for Non-fiction eBook: $ 50,000 USD
  3. Best Fiction eBook: $ 10,000 USD
  4. Best Non-fiction eBook: $ 10,000 USD
  5. Best eBook Technology: $ 10,000 USD
  6. Best Children’s eBook: Further information regarding the Children’s eBook Award will be announced at a later date. The Children’s eBook Award winner will be announced at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in April 2002.
