Hugo 2001 Nominated Works as Free eBooks

May 1 2001

Chatham, NJ - Fictionwise.com, continuing its tradition of releasing major award nominated works as free eBooks, announced today the launch of three free 2001 Hugo Award nominated stories.

The independent epublisher plans to release more free Hugo nominated works in the coming months. The available titles, which will be free for a limited time, are:

  • "Kaddish for the Last Survivor" by Michael A. Burstein
DESCRIPTION: Sarah has one final conversation with her dying grandfather. But to the rest of the world, he is known only as the last living survivor of the Holocaust. In a world that is rapidly heading toward a repeat of those horrors, can Sarah bear to take over his legacy as a witness?
  • "The Elephants on Neptune" by Mike Resnick
DESCRIPTION: A spaceship from Earth arrives on Neptune in the 25th century, and the human adventurers are surprised to find themselves engaged in a spirited conversation with the planet's pachyderm inhabitants. As the discussions focus on the unfortunate history of man's behavior toward the extinct elephants of Earth, the conceited humans are unaware of the Neptunian phenomenon triggered by their arrival.
  • "Redchapel" by Mike Resnick
DESCRIPTION: While visiting England in the fall of 1888, a young Theodore Roosevelt assists Scotland Yard in the effort to capture Jack the Ripper. As the streets of Whitechapel become bloodier with each murder, Teddy's American brand of investigative consultancy shines light into the darkness of the world's most famous 'unsolved' mystery.
