The revolution of publishing

Articles and Speeches by Warren Adler

May 12 2001

Planet eBook, with permission from Warren Adler, has published a series of articles and speeches written by Mr Adler. Mr Adler has published many books including twenty three novels and two collections of short stories. His first speech was given in July 1997 and the latest article was published recently, in March 2001.

A salute to the past; a salute to pBooks, is a speech Mr Adler made to the Public Library Association in Chicago on March 2, 2001. The speech demonstrates Mr Adler's appreciation for the traditional librarian but realizes the evolution of ePublishing and eBooks will inevitably eliminate the need for traditional paper books (except in museums!).

eBooks Land In Paris, is an article published first in Bonjour Paris in which Mr Adler brings forth his message that this new technology (eBooks) "...is the great liberating force for the author who seeks to control the destiny of his career, expand the awareness of his work, enhance the marketplace for his writings, and create a community for his readers..."

In Power to the Author, Mr Adler continues to describe how eBooks and the Web bring the power back to the author. "...Thanks to the e-book option, an author now is empowered to speak out on his or her own terms, to find an audience, to be a free agent and throw off the shackles of other people's agendas and motives...", Mr Adler said in his speech.

The following two speeches were given by Mr Adler to the Jackson Hole Writer's Conference in 1997 and 1999. The first speech focuses on traditional publishing, before the web, and introduces the opportunities of the Internet. The second speech, primarily discusses how the revolution affects the creative writing community.
