Project Gutenberg Request for Support

May 18 2001

Project Gutenberg began in 1971 when Michael Hart was given $100,000,000 worth of computing time on a mainframe provided by the Materials Research Lab at the University of Illinois. Today, Michael seeks to keep the Project Gutenberg Philosophy alive.

The Project Gutenberg Philosophy is to make information, books and other materials available to the general public in forms a vast majority of the computers, programs and people can easily read, use, quote, and search.
