Philips and E Ink showcase latest prototypes

Philips Components and E Ink Corporation showcased their display prototypes during last week's Society for Information Display Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition. The companies plan to commercialize the electronic ink displays for use with devices like PDAs, phones and electronic readers in 2003.

According to the companies the technology behind the 'paper-like' displays improve readability, comsume much less power and are thinner and lighter than traditional LCD displays.

The five-inch diagonal prototype displays, as shown above, can display text an images at 80 pixels per inch.
