A new report with screenshots by PDA Buzz on Microsoft's new Pocket PC 2002 operating system for handhelds includes details on what we can expect to see for the next Microsoft Reader.

Microsoft Reader 1.0 was first launched with Microsoft's Pocket PC operating system, which was the OS behind such popular handhelds as iPAQ H3600, Jornada 545 & Jornada 548 and E-115 Cassiopeia, which were release around 18 months ago.

Details are scant on all the changes, but here are a few key points PDF Buzz lists:

  • Support for Microsoft's highest level of security "Owner Exclusive" (Level 5 DRM) eBooks, which could not be accessed using Microsoft Reader 1.0
  • Increase in the allowable clients from two to four when working with owner exclusive titles -- means you can access your secured eBooks on up to four computers
  • Improved ability to sort and access ebooks
  • New and improved Riffle control for get straight to the part of the eBook you want.
