Questia is now down to a team of around 30 employees after a series of layoffs over the past few months. The online digital library company targets students with it subscription service, offering tens of thousands of journal articles and books for about $15 per month.
The cuts began with 140 going last May and a further halving to around 70 in November, leaving the company with almost 70 employees -- down from its expansionary days where it had about 300 workers. The latest cuts have reduce it further to around 30 employees.
According to media reports, slow sales of its service -- at only around 5% of the goal it had set of 100,000 subscribers -- meant operations needed to shrink for the company during this low growth phase. Online rumours began last month at the Fucked Company Web site of further layoffs for Questia.
