New eBook Reading Device 'Q-Reader' Coming

Q-Net Technologies has announced a new eBook-related device called the Q-Reader. As well as eBook reading capabilities, the multi-function device includes Web connectivity, email and other PDA features, as well as including support for both English and Chinese eBooks.

According to the announcement the device was warmly received at the International Book and Publishing Show being held in Bejing over the past few days. While Planet eBook has not being able to see the device yet, the company describes the Q-Reader much like existing eBook devices -- it is about the size of a paperback, has a large screen, and allows storage of a lot of content.

The device is being developed in with the company's partner Liaoning Publishing Group and when released the companys expect to offer more than 5,000 titles.

Q-Net Technologies, Inc. Introduces Electronic Reader

Q-Net Technologies announced today that the introduction of its Q-Reader, an electronic reading device which incorporates Internet connectivity, Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and email capabilities, was favorably received at the International Book and Publishing Show that opened in Beijing, China on January 10th 2002.

Over 24,000 units were ordered by distributors throughout China during the three day show where the company has received strong publishing industry, education sector and government interest.

The handheld device, developed in conjunction with Q-Net's joint venture partner, The Liaoning Publishing Group of Shenyang, China (LPG), is the size of an average novel. It features a large, readable screen and the capacity to download, store and display the equivalent of 25-30 books, periodicals and research materials of between 200-300 pages each. Known as E-Books, this published material can be displayed in both English and Chinese.

First digital publications for the Q-Reader will be available from www.cnbook.com.cn. The website, created by the joint venture, is expected to offer over 5000 titles, with other content available from Internet websites internationally.

President and Chief Executive Officer of Q-Net, Mr. Fredric R. Mann II, noted the international potential for the Q-Reader. "The Q-Reader opens up the world to a broad range of people. It is an affordable, fully interactive device that will allow students and professionals to consult educational and research resources from around the world."

Mr. Mann went on to say that "Our partner, The Liaoning Publishing Group ("LPG"), is one of the largest, most advanced and most prestigious publishers in Asia. Their technical capacity in publishing and distribution is unsurpassed. Our joint venture with LPG provides access to the largest and most rapidly growing consumer market in the world".

Additionally, the company is expected to introduce its planned wireless and student models to the global market later this year.
