OverDrive, along with one of the leading publishers and distributors of eBooks for handhelds Palm Digital Media, has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding to expand the distribution and marketing of Palm Reader format eBooks.

The partnership will help Palm Digital Media, online stores and readers gain greater access to an enormous range of titles formatted for Palm Reader software -- the software that runs on Pocket PC and Palm OS-based devices. The plan includes the integration of Palm Digital Media's DRM solution and eBook catalog into OverDrive's eCommerce solution, which according to the company serves more than 400 publishers worldwide.

Palm Digital Media, a business unit of PalmSource, publishers and sells more than 5,000 titles and in 2001 sold in excess of 180,000 eBooks. The understanding appears to be good news for their partners and eBookstore sites. "The alliance between Palm Digital Media and OverDrive would enable us to expand our inventory and meet the needs of our customers, which include thousands of loyal handheld users," said Suzanne Cole, business development director of eBooks.com.
