CyberRead, Inc. and MobiPocket Announce Partnership

CyberRead adds Cross-Platform eBook format to eBook offerings

May 6, 2002

Seattle, Washington, USA and Paris, France, - CyberRead, the nation's largest independent eBookstore and distributor as well as an established veteran in the eBook marketplace, announced today that it is providing secure distribution of eBooks in the MobiPocket Reader format utilizing Mobipocket's digital rights management (DRM) technology. Electronic books in the MobiPocket format can be read on popular handheld devices including PalmOS, Pocket PC, WIN CE, Psion, and Franklin eBookMan, virtually 100 percent of the PDA market, as well as personal computers. This is a tremendous advantage for publishers as a single MobiPocket formatted eBook file can be read on PCs and every major handheld device.

"CyberRead is pleased to be one of the early adopters of this exciting eBook technology," said CyberRead co-founder and CEO Marilyn Jenkins. "One of our goals is to make eBooks portable, easy to buy and easy to use. The MobiPocket technology goes a long way to make that possible. We have been offering titles for sale on Mobipocket's web site for six month with impressive results."

"CyberRead is one of the true pioneers in eBook retailing and MobiPocket is delighted to be working with such a dynamic eBook company," stated M. Thierry Brethes, President and Directeur General of MobiPocket. "MobiPocket was looking for an experienced and versatile eBook company to partner with and found it in CyberRead."

CyberRead will offer over 500 MobiPocket titles in addition to their 2000 titles already available in Adobe eBook Reader and Microsoft Reader formats. CyberRead works with over 150 publishers with new publishers being added weekly. CyberRead expects to offer over 3000 MobiPocket formatted titles by the end of 2002. In addition to the MobiPocket format, CyberRead also offers the Adobe eBook Reader and Microsoft Reader formatted eBooks on our web site as well as distribution through Amazon.com, BarnesAndNoble.com and Borders.com.
