BinaryThing.com Announces Strategic Alliance With eBooks.com
Planet eBook ebook Web community to keep readers in touch with ebook technologies
Melbourne, Australia -- September 12, 2000 -- BinaryThing.com today announced that it has formed a strategic alliance with eBooks.com (http://www.ebooks.com/) for its ebook Web community Planet eBook (http://www.PlaneteBook.com/). The announcement coincides with today's official Asia Pacific launch of the eBooks.com Internet eBookstore.
Under the alliance the company's Planet eBook site will keep visitors to eBooks.com abreast of the ebooks industry through its content and services such as news, interviews, columns, forums and tools. Managing Director and founder of eBooks.com, Stephen Cole, will be a columnist and key contributor to the Planet eBook Web community.
"BinaryThing.com is very pleased to announce our alliance with eBooks.com. Being founded in early 1997, eBooks.com is one of the oldest members of the nascent ebooks industry," said BinaryThing.com CEO Karl De Abrew. "We welcome their wealth of knowledge in this space to our community site and look forward to providing their visitors with the most up-to-date and timely information about the world of ebooks."
eBooks.com is building a repository of ebooks, initially in PDF, for sale to consumers from their ebookstore. "We aim to become the pre-eminent destination site for anyone looking for an ebook," said Cole. "To that end, we are entering partnerships with book publishers and the owners of other ebook repositories, with a view to having a catalogue of 30,000 commercial titles by mid 2001."
"eBooks.com is building strategic alliances at key points in the value chain," said Cole. "Our alliance with Planet eBook gives us valuable access to leading thinkers in the digital publishing universe. Planet eBook is an exciting hub of specialist knowledge in this rapidly changing space."
"Our strategic alliance with eBooks.com is so exciting because eBooks.com are poised to become an enormously popular ebookstore and our Planet eBook Web community an important site for growing the ebooks industry as a whole," said De Abrew. "We are firm believers in the success and inevitability of the ebooks industry, and the traffic levels we have seen at our Planet eBook site since its launch less than two weeks ago at Seybold SF2000 have confirmed our beliefs about the huge interest in ebooks and related technologies."
