Problems with the future of The Plant?

While everyone including Stephen King deemed the Part 1 release of The Plant a success, questions remain on Part 2 and the future of the ebook. To quote the author King, "the situation with Part 2 is less clear." The author's enthusiasm may be waning somewhat since the Part 2 release. In keeping with what he has said from the onset, he will only release new parts as long as 75% of readers pay -- which means he will not commit to any more than publishing Part 3 in September.

King has cited technical problems at the point of download and "a widening disparity between downloads and payments" as problems. Interestingly King stated that there has been a problem with some readers downloading multiple formats of the installments for use on various devices and with different software -- this is a problem that may potentially tip the number of non-paying readers above the all important 25%. According to King, each format is deemed a copy and must be paid for.

According to King he has already written the next three parts of the novel and, assuming all parts are released, Parts 4-8 will cost $2 and all parts beyond that will be free. This means that in total the story will cost $13.
